JULY 2006

Well, July started with parties...

The first one was for Jack who lives next door to Callum's Grandma and Grandad.  It was held at the same place that we had Callum's 2nd birthday last year.  It was at Jack's party that Callum decided he did like tomato ketchup afterall... he smeared it all over his food!  He didn't eat much, but he did get a taste for the sauce!

A day later, it was Robyn's birthday.  This was at Alphabet Zoo in Wakefield.  Callum had the time of his life.  There is much more for the little ones to do at this venue, and provided they are accompanied by older children, they are pretty much allowed on all the equipment.  Ryan (Robyn's brother) was on hand to look after Callum.  They went off to cause mischief together, but as the picture shows in the Jul-Sept Gallery, Ryan has a very natural caring side to his nature, and kept a watchful eye over Callum as he climbed and explored!

A few days later, we went to the caravan for a few days, and this time we asked Shaun's Mum to come away with us.  I was concerned that she didn't get to spend the same sort of quality time with Callum as my parents do, so I thought we should all spend a few days at the coast.  We had a great time, we really must all try to get away together again.

This month saw us complete a project we had been working on for a short while... Callum's 'Brum'.  It's not a real Brum, but it is close enough for Callum to be thrilled to bits with.  We dropped on brand new pink pedal car - about £150 cheaper than a real Brum pedal car.  So, we got it so we could paint it ourselves.   Although he would have been happy with it if we had left it pink... he has insisted for quite some time that pink is his favourite colour!

Callum was so excited when we were doing it, he helped us sand down the various parts and washed it ready for painting.  The wait for the primer and paint to dry between layers was driving him mad.  He couldn't wait for it to be finished.  Eventually, after a week or so, we were ready to build his car.  As you can see in the picture, he loved it!

However, there is a downside... he doesn't want to leave him!  We have to prise them apart at night, explaining that 'Brum' needs sleep too.  Reluctantly, Callum goes to bed.  The following morning he gets up and goes to the gate at the top of the stairs and shouts "Brum, it's wakey up time... I'll be down in a minute"!!  Then, when he gets downstairs he gives him a big hug and kisses him, telling him how much he has missed him!  How sweet!

You will notice on the 'Brum' pictures Callum appears to have a vampire bite on his head... he fell over in the yard and somehow, instead of a bruise or a bump, he ended up with two small puncture wounds... oh he did cry bless him, but watching his car being put together soon distracted him.

Well, that's about it for July.

'til next time, take care,
