JUNE 2008 As we move into June, I am still in a tremendous amount of pain after hurting my foot at Creepy Crawlies. Trust me to injure myself at a Kids' soft play area! My whole foot has swollen up like a balloon and is phasing through various shades of black, purple and yellow. We have drawn a blank in our search for a Spanish Tutor for Callum. Instead we are going down the route of getting the BBC educational pack 'Muzzy'. It comes in a variety of languages and is designed for young kids, so it's worth a shot. I celebrated my birthday this month. Callum secretly planned a surprise party for me with his Grandma and Grandad. He even made me a birthday cake! He was so excited and proud... even more so when we told him that, although it was my birthday, his Daddy and me had made a decision that he could have a special pressie... a pet! We told him that he could have a hamster of his very own. He was absolutely thrilled! Callum couldn't wait to go shopping for his first pet. We looked in three pet shops before he found the hamster that he wanted. I girl, mainly black with just a little brown. He wanted to name her after one of the girl cars from Disney's Cars film. So, we now have a hamster called Lizzie. Callum was proud as punch bringing Lizzie home. He squeaked with delight as her little pink nose kept poking through the holes in the carry box. He spoke to her ever so softly, reassuring her that we would be home soon and not to worry about travelling in the car. He found it hard the first few days as I went through the motions of getting her used to us and used to being handled. I have to say it though, he picked a good one. She is so wonderfully tame now and so far had never bit any of us. Callum can't wait to get up on a morning so that he can go down and see her. We had some more nights over at the caravan. On one of the weekends, Shaun and my Mum were working, so it was just going to be me, Callum and my Dad, but then our Andy decided to bring Luke through too. Callum was thrilled to be getting some more time at the caravan with Luke and Uncle Andy, plus it continued to make things easier for me as my foot was still healing and I wasn't yet fully off the crutches. Melanie and Ian's oldest, James, celebrated his 18th this month. Eighteen!!! I remember us taking him to the caravan as a little one. We have known James since he was about 18 months old when he and his Mum and Dad moved into the house next door. He was my first 'surrogate' kid. Not having a kid of our own, we got to play out our parental yearnings with him. I often refer to him as my first born! A few years later Melanie and Ian kindly provided us with a pretend daughter too, Rachel. We love her to bits as well. Callum adores them all. It seems strange to see James and Rachel with Callum. We had always thought we would have kids of our own that would grow up with them two... yet they are now old enough to look after our little Callum! We visited James to wish him a happy birthday, I shouldn't have gone really as I had been quite unwell, REALLY unwell to be honest. I had pneumonia and don't remember ever feeling so ill. Apparently pneumonia can develop after serious injury, I'm still trying to work out how hurting my foot can give me poorly lungs!! Whatever, I could not miss seeing my darling James on his 18th. What with injury and illness, I really feel like I need a holiday right now! Until next time, take care, Amanda xXx
